Pulo

PULO actually means island but when we hear the word pulo, what comes to our mind is an islet, or a small island. Unknown to many, considering that it is hidden from the busy parts of the city, there is a pulo at the Iloilo River.

Found at the western side of the Iloilo River along the Sooc-Navais area is Pulo, a cluster of old-growth mangroves that now serves as nursery as well as resting place for egrets and other migratory birds.

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has built a small hut at Pulo to serve as a training facility, but during my last visit there in March, the GI sheets serving as its roof have been stolen.

Pulo is the source of saplings for the mangrove reforestation project of Iloilo City.
