Lot owners form group to protect Iloilo River

AN informal association of seven lot owners along the banks of the Iloilo River fronting Tabucan in Mandurriao district is initiating steps to protect the river from informal settlers and illegal fishpens.

Headed by former Department of Tourism Secretary Narzalina Lim, the real estate owners have formulated a common strategy for river protection and at the same time develop the river and its banks for uses compatible with those identified in the Iloilo River Development Plan.

The group earlier met with Architect Manuel Tingzon, chairman of the Iloilo River Development Council (IRDC) to discuss the project and make a power point presentation for the IRDC’s comments this coming March 10, 2010.

Lim said the group wants to be involved in protecting and developing the river as the city’s premier natural tourist attraction and site of livelihood opportunities for the people of this southern city.

Initial members of the concerned informal group include brothers Bobby and Victor Pison, Dr. Alice Saldaña, Ann Saldaña, Ludwig Rieder, Mrs. Adorada Dichupa, Dr. Alfonso Tan and Lim.
